Send Us Your Selfie Video on Voting
Want to engage in the Fountain's newest project? We are asking you to get involved in RAISE YOUR VOICE, the Fountain Theatre's citywide "get out the vote" event on Oct 24-25. That weekend, we will be launching a series of live immersive pop-up theatre experiences at public sites throughout the city.
Plus -- we'll be sharing short video selfies about the importance of voting, made by a wide variety of LA citizens (actors, politicians, teachers, nurses, young people, police, business leaders, etc). These video selfies will air at the top of each hour, a different collection of clips every hour, from 10am to 6pm, on our social platforms.
Our gallery of video selfies would not be complete without our Fountain Family.
We Want You to Participate
Please send us a short selfie video (2 mins or less) of yourself expressing how important it is to vote. Nothing fancy. Can literally be taken on a smartphone. Just speak from your heart. Be passionate. What does voting mean to you? Why does voting matter? Do you have a personal story about voting?
IMPORTANT:
You (we) cannot endorse a specific candidate.
Do not mention Trump or Biden by name.
Shoot your selfie horizontal, not vertical.
The purpose of this event is to use theatre as a trigger to activate the public to vote, to emphasize the responsibility of voting, to remind each other of the price some have paid to vote, to express the urgency to participate in this election and in our democracy.
Help encourage democracy in action! Volunteers are needed for Raise Your Voice – Vote!. We invite you to join us in the fun and excitement as we use the power of live theatre to activate the public to vote, to emphasize the responsibility of voting, and to express the urgency of voting in this election.
Volunteer duties include:
-Social Media Ambassadors: Need 2-3 volunteers per location. Post pictures and videos of performances on social media outlets, as well as document/record post-show reactions from the public (with their permission). Also, encourage audiences to post any recordings to their own social media pages. Postcards with the Fountain Theatre’s handles and info will be provided to minimize direct contact.
-Supplies and Safety: Assisting staff with transporting and providing PPE supplies. May be asked to help set up/strike the show’s minimal performance needs, and help to maintain a safe, socially-distanced perimeter around the actors, i.e. politely asking folks to step back.
-Audience Interaction: may be asked to assist our partner, The Social Ripple Effect, in providing voter education. (Training provided.)
Please Note: all COVID safety precautions will be enforced. Everyone will be temperature-checked daily, and masks will be worn. The Fountain will provide masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, sanitizing wipes, etc.
Fountain Friends is the Fountain Theatre's new volunteer program. Email Fountain Friends volunteer coordinator, Terri Roberts, at terri@fountaintheatre.com to volunteer and for more information.
Raise Your Voice - Vote! Is a guerrilla-style, immersive theatre event to take place over the weekend of October 24 & 25. An ensemble will present a series of pop up performances in public spaces throughout Los Angeles. Each piece will feature America's most iconic speeches about voting rights.
Co-directed by France-Luce Benson and Lily Ockwell, Raise Your Voice - Vote! aims to build momentum and awareness towards the upcoming election while bringing theatre for the people, to the people. The live performances will be accompanied by a series of surprise appearances and posts on The Fountain Theatre’s social media pages in support of Voter Awareness; and volunteers from the organization The Social Ripple Effect will be stationed at every location to offer assistance with voter registration and voter education.
Performers: Victor Anthony, Jessica Emmanuel, Wonjung Kim, Theo Perkins, Rayne J. Raney
Underwriters: Miles & Joni Benickes, Diana Buckhantz, Karen Kondazian, Maggi Phillips, Susan Stockel, Dorothy Wolpert, Don & Suzanne Zachary
"Silence is not an option, and we cannot sit this one out. We all have to vote like our lives and the world depend on it, because they do. The only way to be certain of the future is to make it ourselves... Please register. Please vote."
- Billie Eilish
“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”
– Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our voting process.”
– Hillary Clinton
“The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men.”
— Lyndon B. Johnson
